Weight loss and exercise: how to get fit for free...

Fast food for thought...

We don't need to invest in expensive exercise equipment and/or monthly gym memberships in order to tone up and eliminate excess weight, outdoor (and body weighted!) workouts can be equally as effective at fighting the flab as subjecting ourselves to gruelling gym sessions if we maintain the mental motivation to participate in physical activity in far from 'perfect' weather conditions, and source suitable alternatives such as:

  • swapping an aerobic step for a picnic bench
  • pounding the pavement with a power walk (or jog!) as opposed to tackling the tame terrain of the treadmill
  • using the steps - be it concrete or carpet - as an alternative to the stepper
  • substituting a stationary bike with a push bike
  • working with our body weight instead of weights...
all of which allow us to get fit for free without the worry of financial and/or fitness constraints - the latter often leaving us feeling too self-conscious to train.
