Weight loss and nutrition: how planning to go on a 'diet' can supersize our silhouettes...

Image
Fast food for thought... Slimmers who plan to go on a 'diet' often over consume a colossal amount of calories before (the 'one last binge' mindset), during (when dieting deprivation sabotages self-control) and after (the 'failure' to sustain healthier eating habits forces them to find comfort in calories). This can not only cause additional weight gain as a result of an increased energy intake (the core contributor to overweight and obesity), but it can also trigger the toxic diet/binge cycle that leads to chronic crash dieting and crippled confidence as the same problematic process is performed each time that they turn to another fad in an attempt to fight the flab.  www.twitter.com/celerylips

Fast weight loss fact: some of the 'healthiest' food sources are also the most energy dense...

Fast weight loss fact: the average dieter will ditch their existing eating habits in favour of munching more 'healthier' food sources such as unsalted nuts, seeds and avocados, all of which are extremely energy dense per portion and can leave slimmers less likely to create the caloric deficit that's essential for the effective elimination of excess weight if these particular foods play a predominant part in their daily diet - this is simply due to the fact that dieters continue to over consume calories (the core contributor to overweight and obesity) due to making calorific food choices that are healthy, as opposed to calorific food choices that are unhealthy.  www.twitter.com/celerylips

Fast nutrition fact: meat free substitutes aren't as healthy as they seem...

Fast nutrition fact... Despite being linked to better weight management and a reduced risk of developing detrimental diseases such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, slimmers who follow a vegan or vegetarian diet can still munch far from 'healthy' meals if they frequently favour meat free substitutes - this is simply due to the fact that these seemingly sensible sources often contain a substantial amount of salt, sugar and/or saturated fat per serving, and the equivalent amount of energy (if not more!) than their meat based counterparts.  www.twitter.com/celerylips

The reality of realistic weight loss: my story of stretch marks and saggy skin...

Image
The reality of realistic weight loss... Don't automatically assume that something as simple as shrinking your silhouette will strengthen your self-esteem. Excess skin is a common consequence of substantial weight loss that can be equally as confidence crippling as a 'bigger' body (particularly if you're yet to make peace with your perceived imperfections), and can create a whole host of psychological problems that will last a lifetime unless you work hard to achieve, and sustain, self-acceptance regardless of your shape and size. As a former 'fat' girl who has successfully shed a staggering amount of additional adipose tissue (nearly 11 stone of it!), my stretch marks and saggy skin are not only a reminder of how the slimming success stories shared on social media rarely resemble the reality of realistic weight loss, but how important is it to work on improving ourselves internally, as well as externally - a reason why I have chosen to share these very per...

Weight loss and exercise: how to get fit for free...

Image
Fast food for thought... We don't need to invest in expensive exercise equipment and/or monthly gym memberships in order to tone up and eliminate excess weight, outdoor (and body weighted!) workouts can be equally as effective at fighting the flab as subjecting ourselves to gruelling gym sessions if we maintain the mental motivation to participate in physical activity in far from 'perfect' weather conditions, and source suitable alternatives such as: swapping an aerobic step for a picnic bench pounding the pavement with a power walk (or jog!) as opposed to tackling the tame terrain of the treadmill using the steps - be it concrete or carpet - as an alternative to the stepper substituting a stationary bike with a push bike working with our body weight instead of weights... all of which allow us to get fit for free without the worry of financial and/or fitness constraints - the latter often leaving us feeling too self-conscious to train. www.twitter.com/cele...
