Weight loss tip: a calorie is a calorie regardless of its source...

Image
Top weight loss tip of the day: a calorie is a calorie regardless of its source of origin. Although chronically consuming a diet that's predominantly derived from nutrient deficient 'food' sources such as cakes, crisps and confectionery will inevitably increase our overall caloric consumption (this is largely due to the fact that palatable foods are often extremely energy dense per portion and/or overeaten), the human body does not have the ability to differentiate between the calories found in a processed cake, from the calories found in a piece of fruit - this means that both healthy and unhealthy foods and fluids can contribute to weight gain if they create an energy imbalance i.e.we consume more  calories from food and fluid than we eliminate via exercise, activity and the maintenance of basic bodily functions, and we fail to address both the quality a nd  the quantity of the calories that we consume. www.twitter.com/celerylips

Beauty tip: how to re-gain a beautiful brow shape at home...

Image
Top beauty tip of the day... Although a statement set of brows should look sleek and sculpted, a frequent change in fashion trends has left many flaunting a set of sparse and shapeless strands that fail to flatter and frame the face. In order to ensure that your eyebrows are emphasised for all of the right reasons, here are our top three steps for how to re-gain a beautiful brow shape at home. 1.Place a pencil (or an orange stick - the ideal tool) at the side of the nose in a vertical position i.e.the tip of the pencil should be pointing towards the forehead - this is where the brows should start, and any hair before (above the bridge of the nose and between the start of each brow) should be removed to avoid a frown like appearance. 2.Keeping the pencil (or orange stick!) in the same position, swivel the tip until it's crossing the outer corner of the eye - this is where the brow should end, and any hair beyond this point should be removed to prevent the brows from lookin...

How exercise can sabotage weight loss success...

Image
Food for thought: exercise does not resemble a reason to consume crap. Although exercise may be renowned for its ability to increase appetite, this doesn't resemble a reason to resort to (or 'reward' ourselves with) the treats and takeaways that tighten our trousers, an action that the average dieter is guilty of! In order to highlight how tucking into a feast of food after a fitness class can contribute to an over consumption of calories - the calories that we need to cut to effectively eliminate excess weight - we're sharing our top three reasons why what (and how much!) we choose to consume post workout can stop or stall weight loss... 1.The energy burn that's emphasised on exercise equipment (and activity trackers!) is an exaggerated estimate - this fools many fitness fanatics into thinking that they've eliminated (and can eat!) an excessive amount of energy, when in reality, they've only 'cancelled out' the calories in a packet of crisps...

Top beauty tip: why we shouldn't squeeze spots...

Image
Top beauty tip of the day... Squeezing spots can contribute to more than just sore skin. Although it may be tempting to pick and pop problematic pustules - particularly if they're painful, persistent and/or prone to creating a confidence crippling complexion - this avoidable action can not only aggravate acne by intensifying existing irritation and inflammation, but it can also increase the incidence of secondary infection - a problem that's often triggered when bacteria invades the broken skin of picked spots. In order to reduce the risk of skin soreness, scarring and the spread of the bothersome bacteria that's associated with aggravating this common complexion complaint, simply stop squeezing stubborn spots and seek medical treatment if acne is aggressive - the latter can't be cured, but it can be controlled with medicated skincare and antibiotics. www.twitter.com/celerylips

Beauty tip: how to avoid sabotaging the natural shape of eyebrows...

Image
Top beauty tip of the day... Although it may be tempting to tweeze the troublesome hairs that have a tendency to accumulate above bushy brows, the more that we pluck this particular area, the more likely we are to lose our natural brow shape. In order to reduce the risk of falling victim to this frequent beauty fail, only tweeze the odd stray strand/s from above the brows  if the hair is prominent e.g. black, or problematic. The area below and between the eyebrows, as well as the area beyond the outer corners of the eyes (brows that grow beyond this point can make the eyes look tired, and brows look droopy), can continue to be plucked, waxed and/or threaded as normal without the worry of creating an unsightly (and unnatural!) shape.  www.twitter.com/celerylips

Weight loss and well-being: how superfoods can sabotage slimming success...

Image
Whether it's guzzling green tea or gorging on goji berries, the warped world of weight loss has lead many to believe that shaping a slender silhouette is as simple as sipping a smoothie and scoffing a 'superfood' salad, but do we really need to resort to such an unrealistic eating regime to eliminate excess weight? In order to ensure that you avoid a trend that can tighten our trousers and trigger the temptation to resort back to our unhealthy habits, we're sharing five facts that may make you think twice about slimming with superfoods... 1. Some 'superfoods' are extremely energy dense per serving. Sprinkling sunflower seeds (a foodie favourite of superfood fans!) over soups, snacks and salads may seem like a sensible solution to sustaining healthier habits, but the reality of this avoidable action often resembles a raised risk of weight gain as a result of an over consumption of calories - this is largely due to the fact that superfoods such as nuts and ...
